The 10 Most Photographed Cities in Spain
The rise of social media in our lives has been gradual but impactful. Fewer and fewer people exist without at least one social media account, and during vacation times, these platforms are often used to evoke envy in others. Dreamy landscapes and culinary delights flourish on social media profiles during the summer, especially on Instagram, which is image-based (photo and video). In this regard, the vacation rental search engine, Holidu, has conducted a study with data collected in August 2017 on the most popular cities in Spain, specifically those that have the highest number of photos on this social network.
To do this, Holidu analyzed and counted the most representative hashtags for each city, combining variations in names and languages. The results are as follows:
Barcelona
The Catalan capital has positioned itself as the favorite with over 30 million mentions through hashtags.
Madrid
In second place, the capital surpasses 20 million mentions.
Valencia
With nearly 9 million mentions through hashtags, the capital of Turia and its most famous dish, paella, reach the third position.
Seville
With the Triana neighborhood, the Giralda, and its famous April Fair, this city of 'a special color' exceeds 4 million mentions.
Málaga
With 3.4 million mentions, the traditions and seafood of Málaga come in fourth.
Granada
The third Andalusian city in the top ten! Its Alhambra, the view from San Nicolás, and the Paseo de los Tristes captivate Instagram users.
Palma de Mallorca
The first island city on the list is one of the great classics of summer vacations. It's not surprising; it's extraordinary.
Alicante
San Juan beach, the Santa Bárbara Castle, the island of Tabarca... Alicante doesn't need any further introduction.
Zaragoza
Known as the 'City of Four Cultures,' it's no surprise that Zaragoza is on this list with over 1.6 million mentions.
Bilbao
This Basque city, with its pintxos and the Guggenheim, accumulates more than one and a half million well-deserved mentions.
These cities, in the ranking of the 20 most photographed cities in Spain, are followed by San Sebastián, Cádiz, Girona, Toledo, Santander, Murcia, Vitoria, Cuenca, Salamanca, and Tarragona.
