Best Things to Do:
Harry Potter Cruise
The American company Barge Lady Cruises will operate two cruises this summer to the most popular filming locations of Harry Potter. The boat, named Magna Carta and accommodating up to eight passengers, will set sail from August 5 to 11 and from July 19 to 15 from the vicinity of Big Ben in London.
The first stop is Virginia Water, where the young wizard with round glasses and a lightning-shaped scar first encounters Buckbeak the hippogriff. The next stops include Privet Drive, where the house is located where Harry Potter lived uncomfortably with his relatives; the Warner Bros studios, showcasing hundreds of real props used during filming; and Christ Church in Oxford, where a replica of the Great Hall of Hogwarts is located.
The magical experience will also feature a menu inspired by the dishes that Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger ate in the castle. Travelers will find items such as butterbeer, chocolate frogs, Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, firewhiskey, pumpkin pasties, and roast turkey on the menu.
Tickets, which include the aforementioned items along with a bottle of champagne, a relaxing soak in a hot tub, and some of the best views of the city, are already available on the cruise line's website starting at $4,190, about 3,700 euros.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, many activities and exhibitions have been organized throughout the year to celebrate it. From Harry Potter: The Exhibition, a fair in Madrid where fans could wear the Sorting Hat to determine their house, to a Christmas ball in the recreated Hogwarts dining hall at Warner Bros studios, and a journey on the iconic Hogwarts Express through the lands of Scotland.
