The AVE Train Service Between Madrid, Barcelona, and Granada Will Start Operating at the End of June

On June 24, the new AVE train lines will be inaugurated connecting Madrid and Granada as well as Barcelona and Granada. The journey between Madrid and Granada will take approximately 3 hours and 15 minutes with three daily services in each direction, which is expected to increase to four if demand meets expectations.

The journey from Barcelona to Granada will take around 6 hours, with a daily frequency. As for the pricing of the new AVE trains, these are yet to be determined and will depend on various factors such as the route of the track and the type of train used, etc. It is said that the price for the new line will not be as high as the AVE ticket from Madrid to Barcelona, which is around €86, nor as economical as the Madrid-Málaga route that costs €64; thus, it is expected to be around €70.

High-Speed Trains 112

The new trains to cover these lines will be the 112 model, which is an evolution of the well-known 102 manufactured by Talgo-Bombardier. Some are already calling them 'duck trains.' These trains will have 365 seats, 294 in economy class and 71 in club class.

The AVE service will give a new boost to tourism in Granada, which reached record numbers in 2018. This year, the city is expected to welcome over 3 million tourists.
