Biometric Control at Spanish Airports
Specifically, a total of 124 of these systems have been installed at the airports in Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Tenerife South, and Málaga. Additionally, the Algeciras Maritime Station also has this people identification system installed.
The ABC System involves the passenger entering their electronic ID or digital passport. Each of these kiosks has a fingerprint verification sensor and facial recognition cameras. After completing this brief process of just a few seconds, the traveler can proceed directly to the border crossing gate.
In this way, the system allows for the extremely precise collection of the exact data from the user's biometric parameters, contrasting it with their identity document while simultaneously verifying its authenticity and conducting a query against police databases.
Furthermore, the ABC control has the unique feature of recording both entries and exits from the Schengen Area or European Economic Area.
The company responsible for the implementation of this ABC biometric system has been Indra, which first implemented it in 2010 at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat airports as part of a pilot program in Europe.
