Inside the Casa de Velázquez

The Casa de Velázquez has been a French public institution since 1928, dedicated to scientific, cultural, and professional activities. It aims to develop creative activities and research related to the arts, languages, literatures, and societies of Iberian, Ibero-American, and Maghreb countries. This organization hosts artists, researchers, and educators-researchers from all artistic disciplines (visual arts, architecture, musical composition, cinema, video art, and photography) for a maximum period of one year to contribute to their training and participate in the development of artistic and scientific exchanges between France and the related countries.

The Casa de Velázquez is located in the University City of Madrid on land granted by the Spanish state to France, and thus it is under the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of France.

On the upcoming February 23rd, visitors will be able to visit the facilities for free, specifically the artists' studios and the library, meet the creators and researchers in their workspace, and get a sense of their work through publications, exhibitions, videos, dialogues, and concerts.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy the sunset in its terraced French-style gardens with magnificent views of the Sierra de Guadarrama, which is said to have inspired Velázquez in his paintings.
