Best Things to Do:
Comedy and Theater at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival
Every year, Edinburgh hosts its famous International Festival, where the city is filled with art, particularly music and theater. In 1947, alongside this festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was established, which has since welcomed a large number of performances related to the entertainment world.
With significant rivalry during the '60s and '70s, both festivals have managed to become prominent fixtures in Edinburgh's cultural life and are two of Scotland's major cultural landmarks. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, taking place this year from August 3 to 27, is one of the most important events of the year. Each edition hosts thousands of performances across a multitude of stages throughout the city.
Thus, attendees at the Fringe enjoy theater, comedy, musicals, operas, or dance among other disciplines carried out by both professionals and amateurs.
In this year's edition, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe will place special emphasis on poetry as it aims to pay tribute to the Spoken Word. A total of 2,695 performances will be held throughout August, 814 of which are free, across 279 stages spread around Edinburgh.
On another note, for the first time, an information point about the Edinburgh Festival Fringe will be set up in Glasgow, where tickets for the performances will be sold and information about them will be provided.
