Just over an hour from the Serbian capital, Fruka Gora National Park is characterized by its Orthodox monasteries and serves as a getaway where hiking trails are key to enjoying the diverse flora and fauna of the area.

Originating from an island in the Pannonian Sea about 50 million years ago, Fruka Gora has evolved into a green mountain range over a vast plain, with Crveni?ot being the highest peak at 539 meters. Surrounding it are vineyards and Orthodox monasteries that complete the landscape.

With fossil remains from the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Tertiary and Quaternary eras, Fruka Gora is considered a window into the geological past of the Earth. What draws attention is its 16 Orthodox monasteries, built between the 15th and 16th centuries and restored in the 18th century, representing a unique historical-cultural ensemble of Serbian Baroque art. Known as the "Holy Mountain of Serbia," among the monasteries, the highlights include Grgeteg, Kruedol, Novo Hopovo, Beo?in, Vrdnik, and Rakovac.

As for the vegetation of Fruka Gora National Park, its vineyards are well known for producing various types of wine. However, focusing on the area's natural vegetation, there are 30 different types of orchids and 400 species of mushrooms that grow here in the fall.

The local wildlife is also famous among visitors, as the forests are home to wildcats, stone martens, dormice, and bats, while the steppes have numerous colonies of squirrels, which are a crucial food source for raptors. To date, ornithologists have recorded exactly 211 bird species in Fruka Gora. The rarest and most threatened are raptors: the imperial eagle, the Pomeranian eagle, the peregrine falcon, the fish eagle, and the booted eagle.

To enjoy all this, the hiking routes through the forests of ortanova?ka uma, Strailovo, Glavica, Popovica, Andrevlje, Leimir, and Lipova?a are the best option.
