There are hundreds of tips for saving money on travel that keep spreading across social media. Anything synonymous with spending less is of interest to practically all users of Instagram or TikTok.
Each airline has different rules regarding baggage fees, but we always manage to find loopholes to avoid paying, like carrying part of our luggage in a plastic bag from the airport shop. If someone is more interested in saving money while traveling, it's a student.
There's a trick that some Erasmus students already knew about, but remains a mystery to others. The departure from home to study abroad is crucial for many university students: discovering new places, living with people from different cultures, tasting new cuisines... But especially doing it on a limited budget.
Undoubtedly, the Erasmus experience is recommended for anyone with even a slight interest in exploring new sites. As advice for them, or for anyone living outside their country, we've found a TikTok video revealing the ultimate trick to avoid paying for checked luggage at the airport.
What the viral suitcase trick consists of
User @lauritaps173 shared her experience in Italy as an exchange student, and one of her videos went viral for what she revealed. In it, she showcased a medium-sized suitcase that her mother had just sent her from Spain at an absurdly low price: six euros (five, because they returned one after delivery).
"For those who don't know, I'm doing Erasmus," the girl began. She continued: "My mom sends me things via Vinted because it's the cheapest. While post office would charge me 50 euros for this, they charged me six and return one euro." Inside were various types of food and some clothing.
"This is to let you know that you can send anything via Vinted, for example, if you don't want to check in luggage or anything else. Just send it through Vinted and you won't spend ridiculous amounts of money," she concluded her video. Some comments pointed out that this tactic can also be done through Wallapop. But others warned, "If customs stops it for inspection, the suitcase ends up being abandoned."
To execute this 'life hack', you just need to create a profile on the platform. The person in the country of origin should list the product they want to send at the lowest price possible, while the recipient buys it from their profile and only pays for shipping. It's true that it's advisable to be cautious, but it's a good way to save money.
