The Grand Egyptian Museum promises to be the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization... and it was scheduled to open this year. But like everywhere else, COVID-19 halted construction, and now we have to wait a little longer.

Still, it's not all bad news, as this vast 490,000 square meter museum with a glass façade and pyramid shape aims to house all the treasures stored and hidden in Egypt. It might open its doors sooner than we think: it is already 93% built, as reported by CCE News recently.

The minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, Khaled El-Anani, also mentioned, as highlighted by Egypt Today, that 90% of the second Khufu ship has already been restored, and that the belongings of Tutankhamun are already in their facilities. These 92 unique pieces, out of a total of 5,400 from the young pharaoh, will be situated on the private staircases which, soon, will receive hundreds of monuments that will complete the impressive staircase leading to the pyramids.

But that's not all; Anani, the Tourism Minister, has declared that it will also house more than 22 kings and mummies that are already on their way to the Grand Egyptian Museum.

So, all we can do now is wait for this new temple for lovers of Egyptian culture to be fully constructed, making Cairo one of the major attractions for any visit to Egypt, and aiming to receive over 5 million tourists annually from around the world eager to discover all the treasures that will be housed in its facilities.

For now, we must wait until 2021 for the opening of this impressive museum, which echoes the Giza pyramids in its exterior architecture and will accompany the ancient and monumental wonders that we all know: the pyramids we envision in our thoughts of Egypt.

What Can We Expect from the Museum?

Assuming it will be a mausoleum to the grandeur of Egyptian culture, we can expect everything. As reported by CCE News, the museum will showcase approximately 5,400 artifacts from Tutankhamun, the young and famous pharaoh who will delight all lovers, collectors, and passionate tourists of Egypt.

It will also house some of the most important pieces found to date, such as the statue of King Ramses II in the foyer, and the statues of King Thutmose III and Amenhotep III in the main exhibition halls.

Moreover, it intends to be more than just a conventional museum; this architectural complex is designed to accommodate shops, restaurants, a conference center, and even a cinema. For now, we must wait until 2021 to marvel at one of the most ancient and mysterious civilizations... we can hardly wait to see in its full essence everything that this spectacular and anticipated museum has to offer.
