Exclusive New Images of the Grand Egyptian Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum, which will be inaugurated in 2022 coinciding with the 200th anniversary of the deciphering of the Rosetta Stone and the centenary of Tutankhamun's tomb, will be the largest museum dedicated to a single civilization in the world.

This museum will bring together over 45,000 pieces from different museums, more than 20,000 of which have not yet been shown to the public, making the opening of this Grand Egyptian Museum one of the most significant events for historians and history enthusiasts of this civilization. And it will do so in grand style: in a museum that has cost $1 billion and occupies an area of more than 50 hectares.

Among these pieces, the two halls dedicated to Tutankhamun will stand out. These spaces will house more than 5,000 objects that will present the largest collection viewable since his tomb was discovered in 1922. The other halls will feature works that will span from Prehistory and the Predynastic Period to the Late Roman Period.

The museum complex will have an area of over 480,000 square meters and will attract attention with its translucent facade measuring over 600 meters high and 45 meters long, allowing iconic views of the pyramids from within and some of the exhibited pieces from outside. The entrance to the museum is located in a slot of this spectacular facade.

Visitors will be greeted by a monumental statue of Ramses II, which will guide them to one of the most spectacular areas of this museum: the Grand Staircase, where we will be able to see some of the most important statues and objects of ancient Egypt in chronological order through the various epochs of Ancient Egypt.

Not only will it house the largest Egyptian collection seen to date. This grand complex will also feature shops, restaurants, a conference center with a capacity for 1,000 attendees, a library, three parks, and a conservation center aiming to be the largest in the entire Middle East.
