Hong Kong is the Most Visited City in the World

More than 21.5 million people visited Hong Kong in 2011, according to Hosteltur. The consulting firm Euromonitor International has created a ranking of the 100 most visited cities in the world.

Furthermore, this ranking indicates that the Asia-Pacific region has experienced a significant increase in the number of visitors. Cities such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Bangkok (Thailand), and Shenzhen (China) are among the top 10 most visited. Meanwhile, London ranks as the first European city in terms of tourist numbers, being the third most visited in the world.

As for Spanish cities, we must go to position 20 to find Barcelona with over 5.3 million visitors, and to position 34 to find Madrid with nearly 3.5 million.

Regarding future trends, the elimination of visas and governmental barriers at borders will increase tourism, especially in the Asia-Pacific regions, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, due to the economic situation in Europe and the United States.
