Jorge Rey warns: if this happens we will have another Filomena in 2025
With the school year already underway and autumn knocking at the door, many travelers feel September marks the beginning of the year. For everyone looking to start planning getaways (here are some budget-friendly suggestions) and trips for the upcoming holidays, the announcement of what to expect in temperatures is very timely. Making predictions far in advance can be risky, but Jorge Rey, the young meteorologist from Burgos who predicted the Filomena storm in 2021, has already released his forecast for the coming months. And, watch out, as significant snowfall might be on the way.
Are the cabañuelas reliable?
We must keep in mind that although Jorge Rey is often accurate with his predictions, the AEMET remains skeptical about the methods he uses. This meteorologist prefers to rely on observation, proverbs, popular wisdom, and especially on 'cabañuelas,' which, let's not forget, have no scientific basis.
With or without scientific backing, Rey has made his prediction and many are already rubbing their hands in anticipation; especially snow lovers and winter sports enthusiasts. But let's take it step by step and start with the 'Indian Summer,' which we will have at the end of September with pleasant temperatures. However, these will be more spring-like than summery.
Then, in mid-October, a significant change will occur in the form of storms due to the approaching low-pressure systems. Rain will make its presence known, which is essential for agriculture and reservoirs. We just have to hope it doesn't come in the form of a DANA, as this isolated depression at high levels often causes multiple incidents and flooding due to its severity.
Snowy Winter
Jorge Rey talks in one of his latest videos on his YouTube channel about the presence of intense and lasting fog during the winter months, which could be accompanied by snowfalls that blanket the Iberian Peninsula in white in a way reminiscent of Arendelle, the village from Frozen.
The young meteorologist has also mentioned the strange times we are living in. After all, the world seems to have gone mad due to some snowfalls that took place in August in California or just a week ago in the Italian Alps. All triggered by the acceleration of ocean currents.
In summary, if you enjoy snow and winter sports, you can start preparing your gear, because in a few months (if Jorge Rey is right again) we might experience another Filomena.
