Best Things to Do:
The Chilean airline LAN has just invested over $88 million in upgrading its Premium Business and Economy classes on long-haul international flights operating in North America, the Caribbean, Europe, the South Pacific, New Zealand, and Australia, as well as on some flights within South America. The renovation was guided by a desire for greater comfort and privacy for passengers. The 182 centimeters of space now between the seats in Premium Class allows the backrest to recline fully to horizontal (180 degrees). Each seat includes a high-resolution 15.4-inch screen. Additionally, the menu services and in-flight catering have also been improved. The price for a round-trip seat in Premium Class from Madrid to Lima starts at $2,431; from Madrid to Santiago, Chile, it starts at $3,432.
In Economy Class, seats with a greater degree of recline have been added compared to what was previously offered. Each seat now comes with a high-resolution 8.9-inch screen. In both classes, the company has also implemented an entertainment service that includes 44 movies monthly, 95 series channels, 550 CDs, and 14 games, some of which include a multiplayer mode that allows passengers to play with each other during the flight.
The Chilean company celebrated its 80th anniversary on March 5. From transporting 762 passengers in its first year, it has grown to carry 13 million travelers annually. Part of the Oneworld alliance, LAN has daily flights between Madrid and Santiago, Chile and between Madrid and Lima, and also operates several flights a week on the route between Madrid and Guayaquil (Ecuador). Recently, LAN received the operational excellence award as the best Airbus 319 operator in the world, and last April it was once again voted the best airline in South America according to a survey conducted by the UK-based market research company SkyTrax.
