We present five destinations to enjoy the last days of summer.

Finding the perfect destination for August can be tricky, as many people take vacations during this month. Typical locations like Paris, London, or Rome are so crowded with tourists that it's hard to find accommodation and tickets for the most iconic places at the last minute. For this reason, we recommend five destinations where you can travel by booking with little advance notice before the month ends.

That said... remember that last-minute trips can also suffer last-minute changes. That's why it's best to always book a trip with travel insurance that covers cancellations, lost luggage, or medical emergencies. If you can't travel without insurance... we offer you, as a reader of VIAJAR, a 10% discount on Intermundial insurance, one of the highest-rated options on the market.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

This country has become increasingly popular as a tourist destination in recent years, largely because many of the scenes from 'Game of Thrones' were filmed in this small Adriatic coastal city. Dubrovnik has showcased its walled old town, especially its turquoise beaches that contrast with the orange tones of the traditional architecture. Banje Beach is located near the old town, but we recommend visiting Lokrum Island, where there are less crowded beaches and trails to explore nature.

Bremen, Germany

When you enter this city, you feel like you're in a fairy tale. The streets have a special charm, and although when it's covered in snow it's magical, it's also enjoyable to stroll through the old town without freezing. You can visit the Market Square, where the Gothic-Renaissance Town Hall (a UNESCO World Heritage site) stands out, or wander through the charming Schnoor district, the oldest part of the city, filled with medieval houses, shops, cafés, and galleries. You can't leave Bremen without making a stop at the statue of the Town Musicians of Bremen, based on the famous Brothers Grimm tale.

Nice, France

Located on the French Riviera, this city is perfect for a last-minute getaway: it's not overcrowded, can be visited in a couple of days, and there are usually flights from Spain at very good prices. On the Promenade des Anglais, you can enjoy a walk along the Mediterranean to bid farewell to nice weather, and explore the history of the old town (Vieux Nice), where the Cathedral of Sainte-Réparate is located. For spectacular views, we recommend climbing up Castle Hill. If you're into museums, you should visit the Matisse Museum, as Henri Matisse made Nice his muse for many years.

Algarve, Portugal

This region in southern Portugal, with Faro as its capital, is a paradise of sun and beaches, known for its impressive cliffs and charming fishing villages like Tavira or Alvor. For original excursions, you can take a boat ride through the Benagil caves. Also, Algarve offers excellent value for money compared to other coastal areas of Europe.

Teruel, Spain

Although we love discovering new cultures, why do we have such a thirst to leave the country to travel? Spain offers us destinations of all kinds, from stunning beaches to lush and vibrant landscapes, (and it's convenient to plan a last-minute trip if you can drive there). Teruel and its surroundings feature examples of Mudéjar architecture worth visiting, such as the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Mediavilla and its bell towers like those of San Martín and San Salvador, which you can climb for panoramic views. The medieval town of Albarracín, about 30 kilometers away, is notable for its well-preserved walls and is an ideal place for a day trip.
