On March 28, Iberia launches direct flights from Madrid to Los Angeles (USA) with a frequency of three flights per week, departing from Madrid on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. This is the first route that Iberia will inaugurate as a result of the Joint Business Agreement with American Airlines and British Airways for operating routes between Europe and the North Atlantic, which adds to the London-San Diego flights launched by British Airways, and the Barcelona-Miami flights that Iberia will inaugurate, along with Helsinki-Chicago and New York-Budapest, which are being initiated by American Airlines. These new destinations join those that Iberia launched at the end of 2010 to connect Spain and Europe with Córdoba (Argentina) and San Salvador-the first European airline with direct flights from Europe to these two destinations-and Panama, which started in October. Iberia is also launching its transatlantic flights from Barcelona this year with two new routes, Barcelona-Miami and Barcelona-Sao Paulo. And on February 1, it inaugurated direct flights to Recife and Fortaleza, destinations in northeastern Brazil.
