While most brands have been designing SUVs that are better suited for asphalt than off-road, Mitsubishi remains true to its iconic Montero and has not wanted to follow the new trends. In fact, they have even improved the off-road capabilities of the model while making it more comfortable for rugged conditions. This way, the Japanese brand does not want to lose its loyal legion of fans. However, the fact that it is a perfect vehicle for tough terrains does not mean that it is clumsy on the road. It handles quite well and confidently, although it does not have the right tires for going too fast and it doesn't ask for it, especially on roads with very tight curves, where the body roll is noticeable more than when traveling on highways. In this new generation, the frame has increased rigidity. Additionally, it can be purchased with either a manual or automatic transmission. The latter is only available in the more luxurious versions, known as Intense and Kaiteki.

The least equipped version - Invite - only comes with a manual transmission. To navigate through the mountains, it features electronic differential locking as well as mechanical locking for more extreme situations. With a more refined aesthetic, but without losing that powerful front, the Montero faces few obstacles. Sometimes it can pass through places that an inexperienced driver wouldn't even dare to go. The independent suspension on all four wheels makes it even more versatile. On the other hand, the most demanded engine is the turbo diesel, which delivers 170 horsepower. The gasoline version is only available by special order and features a 3.8-liter engine with 250 hp. Although the interior still maintains the classic sobriety of the Japanese brand, the new Monteros seem to show a bit more creativity from the designers, introducing attractive decorative elements in aluminum and wood to give the cabin more warmth. The prices of this excellent and rugged SUV range from $32,990 for the most basic version to $50,900 for the most expensive and luxurious one.
