Money Heist
After millions of views and having become a true global phenomenon, Money Heist bids farewell with the release of its fifth and final season on December 3rd. However, its characters, experiences, and locations will go down in television (or streaming) history.
Thus, Civitatis, the company that sells guided tours, excursions, and free tours, has compiled some of the most notable locations from Money Heist, offering a small tour around the world (with a special Spanish flavor) that can be taken by following the steps of the Professor, Tokyo, Berlin, Denver, and the crew.
Where it all began: the National Mint and Stamp Factory
Probably, the most iconic location in the entire series is the National Mint and Stamp Factory, the place where the gang pulled off their first major heist. However, due to logistical and production issues, the first and second seasons were not filmed at the actual National Mint and Stamp Factory, but at the Superior Council of Administration, located in the Salamanca neighborhood of Madrid.
The most dangerous rooftop, in Madrid
The famous rooftop that has appeared in the last seasons of the series, always filled with dangers and action scenes, is that of the Aeronautical Engineering Technical School. This location is part of the Polytechnic University of Madrid and is located at number 3 on Cardenal Cisneros Street.
Callao Square, where it rained money
The third season of the Spanish series kicked off strong, with a blimp dropping 50 € bills on people strolling in the area. This scene was filmed in Callao, one of the most central places in Madrid, situated between Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol.
The house where the heist was planned, in Torrelodones
The house where the first heist on the National Mint and Stamp Factory was planned is the Finca del Gasco, located in the Regional Park of the Middle Course of the Guadarrama River, in the Madrid municipality of Torrelodones. In the series, this place was the ideal space for the gang to receive the Professor's training for months. In reality, however, it is a venue dedicated to hosting events such as weddings or banquets.
One of the most complicated moments for the Professor, in San Martín de la Vega
In one of the first episodes of the series created by Álex Pina, the Professor finds himself in serious trouble: he needs to erase the fingerprints of one of the robbers from a car parked in none other than San Martín de la Vega, a village near Madrid where some scenes of the series were shot. One can also take the opportunity to visit this locality to, still within the film world, have fun at Warner Park Madrid, the most famous tourist attraction in the municipality.
The Bank of Spain, the new target of the gang
The third, fourth, and fifth seasons focus on a new heist carried out by the gang. This time, the gang attempts to empty the gold reserves of the Bank of Spain, but just like happened with the National Mint and Stamp Factory, the exterior scenes were not filmed at the monumental building located next to the Cibeles Fountain, but in the vicinity of the Ministry of Development, located on the Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid.
Rio and Tokyo's new life in Panama
The first episode of the third season starts with a scene showing how Rio and Tokyo have finally achieved their tropical paradise. The romantic scene was filmed in Panama, specifically in the beautiful San Blas archipelago.
Theoretically the Philippines, but actually Thailand
Also at the beginning of the third season, we are introduced to the new life of the Professor and Raquel, supposedly enjoying the delights of the Philippines. However, various bureaucratic issues meant that the scenes were actually filmed on the coast of Thailand. Patong, Phuket, and Pattaya were the chosen locations to recreate the Philippine island of Palawan.
The sweet life of the Professor and Berlin in Florence
Italy is also part of the locations in Money Heist. Specifically, we have seen the Professor settled in the city of Florence, walking through spectacular places such as the Piazza del Duomo, the Piazza della Signoria, or the viewpoint of Piazzale Michelangelo, enjoying the best views of the Tuscan capital.
The series also mentions the monastery of Pratovecchio di Arezzo, near Florence, but that also has a twist. In reality, the monastic scenes were filmed in San Frutos, a village belonging to the province of Segovia.
Denmark and Berlin's flashbacks
The first part of the fifth and final season of the series made a great change of locations to show the past life of Berlin and his son, played by Patrick Criado. Father and son met in Copenhagen, and while walking through places like the iconic Nyhavn canal or the Tivoli Gardens, they planned a big heist (with help from Tatiana, Berlin's wife, Marseille, and Bogotá) at Frederiksborg Castle, near the Danish capital.
