A New Beach in a Town of Castellón? They Are Already Pouring Sand to Make It a Reality

The Xilxes Town Hall continues to progress in its commitment to enhance the coastal area with the recovery of what is known as the center zone. This is a stretch of coast approximately 350 meters long, which, despite being located between the two main beaches of the municipality (Les Cases and El Cerezo), has been out of use for more than two decades.

This space, which begins at the right side of the boardwalk that goes into the sea and extends to El Cerezo beach, has traditionally been little frequented by bathers due to the presence of large stones, especially on the shore, which hindered both access and bathing. Moreover, the good condition of the other two beaches, with fine sand and established services, led to this central part being forgotten.

Now, the town council wants to recover and transform this stretch into a third urban beach, providing it with optimal conditions for public use. The mayor, Ismael Minguet, assures that they have >. a year ahead to shape it and turn it into an alternative for residents and visitors>>, he adds.

Current work consists of leveling the terrain by removing stones and natural obstacles that prevented enjoyment of the space, and later carrying out a fill with sand from the Burriana port. This measure aims not only to improve the aesthetics and comfort of bathing but also to gain useful space in anticipation of possible sea level rises.

The Town Hall also focuses on the long-term planning of this new beach, with the possibility of incorporating services in future phases of the project if the consolidation of the land is confirmed. This action will allow enhancing the coast as a tourist and local development driver.
