Opening of One World Trade Center in New York

After years of delays, it has been confirmed that today marks the opening of the tallest skyscraper in America at 1,776 feet, One World Trade Center, formerly known as the Freedom Tower. This skyscraper once again changes the skyline of New York City following the attack on September 11, 2001, which caused the collapse of the Twin Towers.

One World Trade Center serves as an office building and aims to be the most recognizable structure in New York, alongside the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. According to the building's official website, One World Trade Center seeks to "create new standards in design, construction, and prestige, as well as proclaim the rebirth of Downtown Manhattan."

For now, the building will only be accessible to workers, as the Observatory will not open until spring 2015. This observation deck will be located on the 102nd floor and will offer views of the Catskill Mountains, the Jersey Shore, the entire Hudson River, the Brooklyn and Williamsburg Bridges, and even JFK Airport.
