Oxygen Bars in India Where You Can Buy and Breathe Pure Air

It is well known that India is experiencing a severe pollution crisis, increasingly affecting public health... One of the alternatives that have been taken is to create 'bars' where people can breathe oxygen free of harmful substances.

India currently ranks among the top positions on the list of the 10 most polluted countries in the world. Its extremely high levels of pollution are twenty times higher than what is considered safe for humans. At the beginning of November, New Delhi reached the most alarming levels of toxicity and was forced to declare a public health emergency.

In response to this critical situation, a series of preventive measures were implemented, such as halting construction work in metropolitan areas and the operations of asphalt processing plants and factories using coal as fuel. Traffic was also restricted, and up to 5 million masks were distributed, with schools temporarily closed. These were some of the consequences of this pollution crisis, during which the concentration of fine particles reached 533 micrograms per cubic meter (the recommended level by WHO is 25 micrograms per cubic meter).

One of the most remarkable alternatives that have emerged due to this severe pollution crisis is the establishment of oxygen bars. Aryavir Kumar and Margarita Kuritsyna, two young entrepreneurs, opened a bar called Oxypure in May. It is located on one of the busiest streets in the city and offers 15 minutes of pure oxygen for 300 rupees, which is around 3 to 5 euros.

The oxygen sold in this bar is accompanied by essences to enhance the complementary effects of breathing clean air. Customers consume oxygen through tubes placed in their nostrils, receiving clean and scented air, as the establishment offers a total of 7 flavors, including orange and mint.

While this may seem crazy, the reality is that it is happening daily, and as Aryavir Kumar, one of the bar's owners, states: "Twenty years ago, no one imagined they would have to pay for a bottle of pure water, but now it is happening."
