Best Things to Do:
Premium Economy Class, the New Class from Lufthansa
More space and comfort is what the new Premium Economy Class from Lufthansa will offer, which was presented at the ITB 2014 Fair in Berlin. Specifically, the new seats will provide up to 50% more space, granting travelers greater privacy thanks to 4 inches (10 cm) more lateral space afforded by a dedicated armrest and a central console between the seats. Additionally, the seatback reclines more than in Economy Class, and the distance between the front and rear seats is significantly greater: 38 inches (97 cm).
Other features of the seats in this new class include adjustable headrests that can be positioned to the desired height and can be folded at the edges for added comfort and support, along with adjustable footrests starting from the second row, while integrated leg supports in the first row provide extra comfort. Moreover, the seat includes additional gadgets such as a bottle holder, electric plug, and extra space for passengers' belongings.
Furthermore, passengers in the new Premium Economy Class will enjoy additional services, including a baggage allowance of two pieces weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg) each and exclusive onboard service that includes a welcome drink, a bottle of water at each seat, and a high-quality amenity kit. Additionally, onboard menus will be served on porcelain dishware, and the touchscreen provided at each seat measures between 11 and 12 inches (28 to 30 cm). A wide selection of magazines and newspapers will also be available.
Jens Bischof, responsible for sales, product and marketing at Lufthansa German Airlines, stated that "our Premium Economy Class will create a completely new travel experience that combines affordable pricing with increased comfort."
The new travel class will be available for booking starting from May, and will be in service from November 2014, initially aboard the Boeing 747-8. The new seats will gradually be included across the long-haul fleet in the following 12 months.
