Ryanair has just announced that starting November 1, it will charge for carry-on luggage up to 10 kilograms, which was previously free. Additionally, they are changing the size of the second allowed cabin item. As a result, the airline will only permit one free handbag that fits under the seat with maximum dimensions of 40x20x25 cm.

This measure will not affect those who purchase priority boarding as they will be allowed to bring a rolling suitcase up to 10 kilograms and an additional bag. For those who do not purchase this option, Ryanair has established a fee of €8 for luggage up to 10 kilograms that must be checked in at the company's counters. According to Ryanair, this measure is necessary due to delays at the boarding gate when storing luggage that does not fit in the cabin.

This measure will take effect on flights starting November 1 and for reservations made from September 1 onward. Passengers who have a reservation made before September 1 for flights after November 1 will have to pay this additional cost through their reservation.

Moreover, passengers arriving at the boarding gate with a bag that does not fit under the seat will have to pay €25 per bag and place it in the overhead bin of the plane.

According to Ryanair's Marketing Director Kenny Jacobs, "starting in November 2018 (...) we are changing our carry-on luggage policy to eliminate boarding delays. Priority Boarding customers will continue to enjoy two free carry-on bags. All other customers (non-priority) will be allowed one free small carry-on bag, and those wishing to check in a second larger bag, up to 10 kg, can do so for €8 at the time of booking."

According to Ryanair, this measure will only affect 40% of its users, as currently 30% already purchase the Priority Boarding option - a maximum of 95 passengers on flights with a capacity for 189 passengers - and the other 30% travel with only a small handbag that remains free.
