Sierra de las Nieves: the new National Park in 5 stops
In the heart of the province of Málaga, in the southwestern end of the Betic Mountain Range. This is where the boundaries extend for this new National Park, the sixteenth in the national network and the third in Andalusia. Here are some of its main points of interest.
1. La Torrecilla
At 1,919 meters high, it is the tallest peak in the Park. From its summit, you can see Sierra Nevada and the Mediterranean on clear days. The most demanding route to reach the top starts in Tolox and continues through Cañada de las Carnicerías.
2. Peñón de los Enamorados
In Yunquera. A privileged viewpoint to enjoy the surroundings: the reservoirs of Chorro, the Sierra del Torcal, the Grazalema range... and also the sea.
3. Cueva del Agua
In one of the most unique enclaves of the Yunquera pinsapar. A great cavity that served as a refuge for shepherds.
4. Pinsapo de Las Escaleretas
In Parauta. It gets its name from the limestone slabs in the area that resemble steps. It is an extraordinary tree, over 350 years old and 26 meters tall.
5. Río Turón
A tributary of the Guadalhorce that originates in the place called La Fuensanta, in El Burgo. Don't miss its spectacular waterfall, located in the Blanquillo creek area.
