Countries You Can No Longer Visit in 2024: The Government Prohibits It
A few weeks ago, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated travel recommendations for travelers. This was in response to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly in areas of Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt, as well as more obvious locations like Afghanistan and Israel.
These recommendations were posted on the official ministry page, urging those intending to travel to some of these locations to do so with extreme caution and at their own risk. They also warn that, in the event of traveling, the government will not be responsible for hospitalization in case of an accident or for repatriation. That is why it is important to know these locations, just as we explained which were the 5 most dangerous places in the world that you should never visit.
Conflict Countries You Cannot Visit
Although these recommendations are not prohibitions, it does not imply that there are no problems when traveling to these locations. The state will not be held responsible in the event of any case requiring the repatriation of travelers.
The list is topped by certain areas in conflict countries, such as some regions of Israel and Palestinian territories, non-tourist areas of Egypt, and one hotspot that has topped the list for years: Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union, and Cooperation provides, on its website, a list where travelers can consult all countries where they might encounter problems, considering events such as elections that might cause disturbances in the streets, areas with high crime rates, or more general events such as wars.
Below, we provide a list of some places you should avoid when deciding your destination:
- Afghanistan
- Chad
- Colombia
- Ecuador

Some Cases Are Different
It should be noted that the recommendation is not the same for all of them. For example, Syria and Iraq are categorized as places to avoid traveling under any circumstances. Yemen, Afghanistan, or Nigeria are considered "very high risk" by officials, so travel is not recommended unless extremely necessary. On the other hand, in Ecuador and Colombia, only specific areas are cautioned against.
In the case of Egypt, they acknowledge that it is a location with a generally good security level, but due to events in Gaza, travel to the border area is not recommended, as well as the northern Sinai region, including the city of Taba. For the rest of the country, it is advised to follow the basic rules of travel to enjoy this Mediterranean beauty waiting to be discovered.
