The SkyLodge Adventure Suites: Sleeping Suspended 400 Meters Above the Void
An hour and a half drive from Cusco, in the Sacred Valley of Peru, are transparent nests at different heights where not condors, but humans sleep. Each of the three exclusive suites (with a maximum capacity of 8 people) has a queen-sized bed, two single beds, a private bathroom, and a living room, from where one can enjoy a night contemplating the beautiful landscape and the stars of an unpolluted sky.
To access them, one must climb via ferrata or traverse a path using ziplines, with professional help for either option. The journey is simple, as the company ensures that no prior experience in similar activities is required. When booking one of the rooms, breakfast, gourmet dinner with wine, transportation from Cusco, and bilingual professional guides are also included. From Natura Vive, they remind you to wear comfortable and thermal clothing - taking into account that the coldest months are from June to August - and that reservations should be made up to two months in advance during peak season.
Much More Than Just Spending a Night
If spending a night in one of the capsules seems too daring, you can also book the adventure package, which includes a four-course lunch over the valley and climbing via ferrata and descending via zipline or rappel. However, if preferred, one can skip lunch and just ascend and descend the mountain while enjoying the wonders of the ancient valley of the Incas.
If you still think that's not enough, you can complete your stay with an experience in "high bathtubs." This way, travelers can bathe in a wooden tub with hot water under the only light of the stars. They have different modules at various heights (above sea level): Cruz del Sur (2,900 meters), Baby Llama (2,920 meters), The Shepherd (2,930 meters), The Fox Pod (2,940 meters), The Condor (2,952 meters), and Orion (2,962 meters).
The Sacred Valley
The Inca Empire extended from present-day Colombia to central Chile, although the capital was Cusco, more than 3,000 meters above sea level. In the middle of it, the Sacred Valley, traversed by the Vilcanota-Urubamba River, was also sacred to the Incas, who saw the Milky Way on Earth. However, the designation is not for the entire area, but for the towns of Pisac, Calca, Yucay, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo that are formed around the riverbed.
Many of the archaeological remains have been looted over time, but there are still signs of what occurred and ruins from the 15th century. However, magic covers the valley when night begins to fall over the ancient Inca Empire. The sky turns orange, the sun sets, and the Milky Way becomes visible, hiding the earthly and creating a connection with nature and history that can be experienced in few places.
