The Mysteries of Our Planet: A Bermuda Triangle in Space

The universe we live in is infinite, and we know only a small percentage of its expanse, but what is close to our planet is well studied. Or at least, that's what scientists and specialists thought, as there is a very specific area near Earth that remains a true mystery. As we know, satellites and spacecraft travel outside of planetary orbit to uncover the reality that exists above our heads, but there is a particular element that complicates investigations.

In the vastness of space, planets coexist within galaxies alongside space debris, spacecraft, satellites, astronauts, and thousands of things we still do not know. However, there is a very strange and intriguing phenomenon known as the "South Atlantic Anomaly." This mystery surprised experts and helped explain a recurring situation experienced by spacecraft and satellites, reminiscent of the Bermuda Triangle.

Space Mysteries

But let's explain precisely what this is and how it affects our planet. Scientists discovered that when their satellites and spacecraft passed through this area, they suffered severe disruptions and failures such as loss of connection or trajectory deviations. Hence, the similarity to the phenomenon that occurs in the waters of the Bermuda Islands and Puerto Rico. Yet, as mysterious as it may seem, it has an explanation that took years to uncover but is now known and understood.

It is a peculiarity located at a point on our planet where the intensity of the magnetic field is weaker. This fact does not pose any threat to living beings, but it does to specialists and astronauts crossing this area, as it contains very high radiation levels due to the reduction of the magnetic field that protects the Earth.

Launching an object into space is a labor-intensive task that involves years of planning, requiring numerous studies and checks to ensure there are no failures and that the artifact reaches its destination without issue. Generally, satellites orbit our planet without problems, but scientists found a zone where they commonly fail. They discovered that errors occurred precisely in that area encompassing South America and the Atlantic Ocean.

The most impressive discovery revealed that the culprit behind these errors was the Sun. The very star that provides us warmth and the ability to live on our planet is the same one that causes our satellites and spacecraft to fail. This is due to solar flares, a factor we are familiar with but did not know could negatively affect the electrical systems of terrestrial technology.

Van Allen Belts: A Space Phenomenon

These solar flares are made up of particles with a very high energy charge that move at will through the Solar System. Once these reach our planet, they are captured by the magnetic field and create a space phenomenon known as the Van Allen belts. The inner part of this belt is the most powerful and is located between 500 and 5,000 kilometers from the Earth. Its power and high concentration of energy can interfere with the computing systems of our satellites, which orbit at precisely that distance.

This space Bermuda Triangle complicates the proper functioning of our devices, which is why scientists have decided that low-orbit satellites should be placed at an altitude of 500 to 1,000 kilometers to avoid excessive radiation and solar particles that can harm them. Additionally, reducing altitude helps prevent collisions with space debris, which is prevalent in our galaxy and can completely destroy a satellite.

Now we are aware of this mystery that has kept scientists awake as they could not find a logical explanation for this area of our planet where satellites and spacecraft suddenly stop functioning, which is simply due to the existence of a natural phenomenon occurring in space.
