The Best Natural Pools in Ávila to Cool Off in August
The heat is intense, and we search for spots where we can combine the relief from high temperatures with the experience of immersing ourselves in a natural environment that enhances our sensations. One way to meet both conditions is to visit one of the natural pools scattered throughout the geography of Spain.
In this regard, the province of Ávila is undoubtedly one of the leading examples in the country due to its rich natural landscapes, quality water, and good accessibility to these attractive places. Here, we review the best natural pools of this province, which boasts the highest number of bathing areas of this type in the entire region of Castilla y León, thanks to the characteristics presented by the Sierra de Gredos.
The Pool of the Walls
Starting from the town of Navacepeda de Tormes, just a short distance from the village is a magnificent pool located in a unique natural space highlighted by the presence of a well-preserved Roman bridge.
The walls that line the pool at the foot of the bridge create an unmatched visual spectacle, forming an idyllic spot for swimming in the cool, clear waters of the Barbellido River, in a widening of the river that facilitates this activity.
The Charco del Risquillo
At the exit of the town of Guisando, on the southern slope of the Sierra de Gredos, the waters of the Pelayos River form a natural pool that has been adapted for recreational use, making it a suitable place for various aquatic activities, given its size and depth.
Surrounded by facilities and heritage spaces, as well as an exceptional environment, it is one of the best places in the province to spend a full day in the countryside.
The Green Pool
Very close to the Charco del Risquillo, following the river upstream of the Pelayos, another pool that is part of the municipality of Guisando appears. Next to Camping Los Galayos and surrounded by a forest rising along the slopes of the sierra, this natural pool is also adapted for optimal use of the crystalline and greenish waters of this excellent pool to enjoy nature.
A nearby parking area, across the road, facilitates access to this point.
The Natural Pool of El Raso
Continuing on the southern slope of Sierra de Gredos, in the municipality of Candeleda and near the town of El Raso, we find another splendid bathing area known as the Natural Pool of El Raso or Los Riveros.
Famous, like this sector of the sierra, for the characteristic microclimate that prevails in these coordinates, the good accessibility of the pool, as well as the recreational area located next to it, have made it one of the most visited in the area.
The Garganta de los Caballeros
Finally, although by no means of lesser importance, we turn to the Garganta de los Caballeros, one of the most beautiful natural spaces in this mountainous sector where there are numerous pools, waterfalls, and stretches of crystal-clear waters in which to immerse oneself and feel in full communion with nature.
The most suitable section for swimming is located between the towns of Tormellas and Navalguijo, although the most popular and best-equipped point, both in terms of access and services, is located next to the restaurant El Rincón de Moma.
