Cruise Icon of the Seas
The New Biggest Cruise Ship in the World
The new largest cruise ship in the world is about to set sail. The Icon of the Seas from Royal Caribbean International has completed construction at a shipyard in Finland and has conducted its first sea trials. The aim is for the ship to be delivered to the company in October of this year for its maiden voyage in early 2024. Measuring 365 meters long, this immense cruise ship has broken the previous record held by the same company and has become the new largest cruise ship in the world.
Its first voyage is scheduled for January 2024, welcoming its first 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members. Additionally, this ship will feature the largest water park at sea, with various slides for an adrenaline rush. It will include six water slides that will also break their own records, while those seeking a more relaxed experience can enjoy seven pools and nine hot tubs throughout the ship.
In addition to refreshing activities, the ship promises over 40 ways to dine, drink, and have fun. With 20 decks and eight immense interior common areas to explore, its primary goal is to keep passengers engaged without a single dull moment.
There will be activities for both children and adults, as well as options for individual, couple, or family plans. Interestingly, this ship will also include an adults-only space where daily piano duels between two expert musicians take place.
Accommodations will be offered in 28 different categories, prioritizing families, groups, and ocean views. Furthermore, it will be the world's first cruise ship to feature these characteristics and to be powered by liquefied natural gas, aiming to reduce its carbon footprint.
To ensure optimal operation of all facilities, the Icon of the Seas will have 2,600 crew members on board each day. In fact, a trial run with passengers is scheduled for late 2023, just before its grand opening in January 2024.
The expectations surrounding this new and impressive cruise ship are so high that pre-sales have been a total success. Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, announced in a media presentation that this has been "the launch of a new product with the best performance we have ever had."
The Icon of the Seas will sail for seven nights through the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Miami throughout the year, almost continuously. Additionally, each trip will include a visit to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean's private island, which features a recent expansion, Hideaway Beach.
