Traveler's Passport
A familiar face on television thanks to her roles as an actress in series such as Physics or Chemistry and Acacias 38, Leonor Martín has triumphed this season by making a leap as a presenter, alongside Lidia San José, of The Pillars of Time on La 2, a very travel-oriented program where the Madrid native has been able to showcase her background as an architect. The show dissects and profiles the most spectacular architectural spaces and monuments in Spain to better understand their history and curiosities. Leonor shares with us in our Passport section what other places around the world have captivated her.
- When reflecting on her childhood, what are her most memorable vacations?
One summer in Puerto de Vega, Asturias. I went there with my family and made great friends with a group of local kids. It was the most fun summer; I would go in and out of the house to play without explanations. I didn't want to go back to Madrid.
- What was the first trip she took without her parents?
The end-of-year trip to Seville. I particularly remember the Royal Alcázars and their peacocks.
- If she didn't live where she does, what city would she like to live in?
Lanzarote. I'm fascinated by the energy of the island and the universe of César Manrique.
- What destination would she like to visit if she had the time and/or money?
If I had both, I would travel around the world, but if I had to choose one place, I would say Brazil. I would love to spend several months exploring the country and visiting the work of architect Lina Bo Bardi.
- What is her favorite spot on the planet?
The terrace of my friend Danya's apartment in Istanbul. I spent hours in silence in the early morning contemplating the boats coming in and out of the Bosphorus.
- Has she taken any trips inspired by a book, movie, or song?
Not as such, but I have loved discovering places that have inspired stories that have moved me in cities like Rome, Paris, Berlin, New York, or Havana.
- What is her favorite mode of transportation?
Long train journeys are the most enjoyable. I love the leisurely time and the chance to meet other travelers.
- What is the most bizarre purchase she has made on one of her trips?
I returned from Greece with my suitcase full of black olives, feta cheese, and oregano. I ate Greek salad for weeks.
- What can't she leave without in her suitcase?
A notebook to draw and take notes during the trip. I always think I will return to these places, and I like to make a kind of travel journal to remember the spots I've visited.
