Thor's Well, the Mysterious Well that Swallows the Ocean
The fact that the United States is filled with fascinating places is a reality. Magnetic hills that defy gravity, some of the most overwhelming places on earth, and cities that seem to pause in time allowing us to admire their beauty.
This time we head to Oregon, one of the states with the most beautiful and lush landscapes in the entire United States. It is located right on the Pacific coast and is known for offering hundreds of adventure experiences, hiking, and mountain routes. In fact, here we find great attractions like Multnomah Falls, one of the most stunning landscapes on the planet.
But undoubtedly, one of the most surprising and curious places can be found at Cape Perpetua, in the form of an impressive coastal well that seems to swallow the sea as if by magic. A picturesque natural landmark that has been named 'Thor's Well'.
A Magnificent Show
Thor's Well is an impressive and deep hole located on a rocky promontory jutting into the Ocean. A gigantic well that, during high tide when the waves rise above the level of the mountain itself, gulps down seawater.
The stronger the waves, the more impressive this visual spectacle, which blends with the colors of the beautiful sunset, making this place even more magical. A unique spectacle that draws thousands of visitors each year.
But it's not all magic and mysticism. This place is deemed one of the most dangerous in the area, as the force of the waves and the sharp rocks create a perfect combination for major accidents to occur. That's why, for years, the U.S. Forest Service has traced a path to a cliff around the cape, providing excellent and safe views of this natural spectacle.
How Was This Deep Well Created?
No magical place is without theories of all kinds. Some people think it's an energetic location, others believe it's one of the holes leading to the center of the Earth, and a few simply admire its imposing beauty.
However... it's not any theory beyond reality. This phenomenon occurs because Thor's Well is situated at Cape Perpetua where up to three different ocean currents converge, moving the waters of the Pacific Ocean. These currents seem to meet specifically at this point, leaving behind this impressive geological formation that swallows the water.
