It was, much more than a box office hit, a myth of Spanish cinema. A film conceived as a masterpiece of delirious comedy and an inimitable reference of absurd laughter. Amanece que no es poco is the most outrageous and surreal film by José Luis Cuerda, who passed away yesterday due to an embolism.

Released in 1988 and filmed in various locations in Albacete, the hometown of the director, the audience embraced this story, despite the critics hardly giving it any value. And thus was born a whole legion of 'amanecistas' who, more than 30 years later, continue to reenact those memorable scenes with dialogues that will forever be etched in the annals of humor.

Ayna, Liétor, and Molinicos were the Albacete towns that served as the backdrop for these sequences. Together, with the backdrop of the Sierra del Segura that sketches the green heart of the province (some call it the Manchego Switzerland), they formed that remote mountain village where Amanece que no es poco takes place.

This village, which is, as we mentioned, a compilation of several towns, is what constitutes, along with its surroundings, the tourist-cinematic route designed by the Tourism Council of Castilla La Mancha more than a decade ago. A route that attracts hundreds of spectators every year, fascinated by Cuerda's film.

Throughout the journey, a selection of scenes unfolds, with informative panels helping visitors recall the moments of this story in its actual location. Moments such as the one of the farmer talking to his pumpkin (You who could be at the table of the rich and powerful have chosen the humble plot of a poor old man to set an example to the world...>>); the levitation of Paquito, or the village's welcome to the mayor under the famous shout of Mr. Mayor, we are contingent, you are necessary>>.

The route, born accompanied by a guide titled Amanece, que no es poco, movie scenarios, not only facilitates the traveler's entry into these remote places but also invites a discovery of this mountainous land, where unique natural wonders like the Birth of the Río Mundo and picturesque villages full of traditions and culture are located.

Exploring these beautiful settings means discovering charming accommodations, delicious gastronomy, and multiple opportunities for active tourism in an area that will forever be linked to this satirical and devastating film that brought together the best of the Spanish scene at that time: Antonio Resines, Luis Ciges, Manuel Alexandre, María Isbert, José Sazatornil, Chus Lampreave, and Gabino Diego, among many others, accompanied by the spontaneity of the locals who acted as extras. A film that skillfully ironized about deep Spain and the stereotypes of rural life.
