Legend has it that the tomb of Cain could be in Afghanistan

The Bible states that Cain was condemned to wander the land of Nod after killing his brother Abel, consumed by hatred, anger, and envy. The human duality is reflected in these two characters who are direct descendants of the first humans on Earth according to Catholicism, Adam and Eve: good and evil, the chosen one by God and the one chosen by the Devil. Cain became the first murderer in history, considered the son of evil by Christians but viewed very differently by Muslims.

Islam portrays Cain as a derailed person who found God again in the place where he spent his last days and, as a redeemed individual, ended up buried in a holy place. From Damascus (Syria), where he supposedly killed his brother, he wandered for days, weeks, perhaps years, until he stumbled upon present-day Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. The Pashtuns - the predominant people who have now become the Taliban - claim that Cain is buried there, specifically in the Shoada-I-Salhim Cemetery.

Prehistoric Remains

It is not the most well-known, nor the most beautiful, nor the largest, but it is the one that seems to hide one of the greatest biblical mysteries. If there truly existed a person named Cain who lived at that time and committed an unforgivable sin, there should be some evidence of it, such as his tomb. The name of the city of Kabul derives from the Arabic name for Cain, so it would not be surprising if he ended his life in the Afghan capital.

The cemetery has been found to contain archaeological remains over 30,000 years old, from prehistoric times and always dedicated to religion. In fact, the best representations of young Buddha have appeared in Afghanistan, symbolizing that this place was Tibetan. That 'Mountain of Death', which was once a sacred Tibetan site, houses a mosque beneath which they say the remains of Cain lie. However, it is impossible to access them, and it is no coincidence.

A Slab Over Evil

Above the tomb of the son of evil lies the grave of the saint who brought Islam to Afghanistan, strategically placed to block any harm that the spirit of Cain might inflict. Photographing or recording inside the cemetery is not allowed, where so many graves have formed authentic mountains. The Pashtuns call themselves 'children of Israel' and claim to be one of the ten Lost Tribes, a fact that would add even more meaning to the presence of Adam and Eve's firstborn in the country.

However, this is not the only place where it is believed his grave might be, as it could also be located in the Treasure Cave beneath the Mediterranean Sea or in a cave in the city of Hebron in the West Bank. Legend has it that Cain had a musician son and a poet son - the two arts that drive people crazy. No one has ever been able to uncover that burial, nor has it been destroyed despite multiple wars. Some speak of respect. Others, of fear.
