Three times larger than the Wembley Stadium. This will be the largest wave pool in Europe and one of the most advanced in the world. Furthermore, with its state-of-the-art technology, it can generate up to 1000 waves per hour, a paradise for surfing enthusiasts just 25 minutes from downtown Edinburgh, in the charming town of Ratho.

Lost Shore Surf Resort is situated on a property featuring luxury accommodations, a bar, café, restaurant, surfing schools like The Surfskate Academy, and specialty shops. These facilities aim to change the tourism and surfing landscape in Scotland, bringing this iconic sport to a new home inland. Best of all, it is a true paradise for both experienced surfers and those looking to start in this exciting sport.

Before we explore the largest wave pool in Europe, let's discover Ratho, a quaint Scottish village that looks like it's straight out of a postcard, known for its beautiful sites including Union Canal, the Parish church, the cemetery, and the War Memorial. It's a unique location that sports lovers already have on their radar, as it houses the EICA (Edinburgh International Climbing Arena), the largest climbing center of its kind, with top-notch climbing facilities and other recreational activities, including an aerial assault course.

Returning to the largest wave pool in Europe, it is a pioneering attraction for generating customized waves for surfing and serves as an example of sustainability, consuming less energy than a single ski lift at a resort. It uses up to 10 times less energy per wave compared to some existing facilities.

Set on vast grounds with access to forests and trails along the canal, Lost Shore Surf Resort offers 53 luxury accommodations made up of hilltop lodges, and waterfront pods and lodges (six fully accessible), with capacity for eight people. In addition, it features a bar, café, and restaurant showcasing Scotland's interesting food and drink offerings (whisky is a must-mention).

Not only surfing enthusiasts should note this complex that houses the largest wave pool in Europe, but it's also a space suitable for the whole family. For example, if sports aren't your thing, you can always enjoy the extensive treatment menu they offer, so instead of getting tired, you can return to your routine feeling refreshed.

Lost Shore, in addition to being the world's first indoor surfing resort, is the dream come true for Andy Hadden, a surf enthusiast in love with the landscapes of his country. For Hadden (who discovered this sport at age 7 and knows the waves of the Basque Country well), this project aims to 'inspire those who have never surfed to try it and feel the thrill of riding their first wave.'

But there's more: 'Coming from Scotland, home to some of the best waves, landscapes, tourist attractions in the world, and a wonderful growing community of surfers, I wondered if I could create a plan that would elevate our country's status to a leading global destination and provide a paradise for surfers of all levels. A resort that families and friends can enjoy, whether surfing or not, and a place to escape from it all. A truly inclusive place, authentically Scottish.'

After more than a decade of hard work, the largest wave pool in Europe is set to open its doors in September. Also ready is the Surf Lab, a laboratory created in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University that has, for example, worked on the pioneering development of plant-based wetsuits, placing it at the forefront of innovation. Additionally, Lost Shore is funding the world's first PhD in surf therapy, examining the huge physical and mental benefits that surfing provides.

In short, if you are a surfing enthusiast (here are the best beaches in Spain to practice it), you should not delay in visiting Lost Shore Surf Resort, and if you have never been tempted to ride the waves, you will always find other attractions both at the resort and while strolling through the streets of Ratho.
