5 Perfect Tricks for Summer Travel Without Losing Your Mind
Summer is one of the most anticipated times of the year for travelers, as it is when many getaways are organized. It doesn't matter if your vacation is in Japan or in Southern California: during the hottest months of the year, traveling can be a true nightmare. For this reason, we present some tips to help you tackle your sightseeing days without losing your mind.
Stay Hydrated and Take Care of Your Health
As obvious as it may seem, drinking water during hot days is crucial to avoid serious consequences like heatstroke. Additionally, it's important that the water you drink is cold, as not only do you need to hydrate, but you also need to lower your body temperature. A little "trick" to keep water cold all the time is to fill a plastic bottle with water and place it in the freezer until all the liquid freezes. This way, while you're traveling, the ice block will slowly melt, providing you with cold water throughout your trip.
You can also consume hydrating foods to take care of your health. Watermelon and cantaloupe are classics, but celery and cucumber are also ingredients you can add to your meals to stay hydrated.
Avoid the Hottest Hours
If a square in any town in Andalusia is empty at 3 PM, it's not because the locals are taking a siesta (well, some are), it's because you can't be outside at that hour. Jokes aside, being in the sun during the hottest hours of the day can have serious consequences for your health, like heat strokes or sunburns. Sunbathing at noon is a quick and easy way to end up in the hospital, whether from skin burns (sunscreen is very important!) or severe dizziness, and making the effort to walk around the city can also mean you might need to visit your trusted doctor sooner than expected.
Locate Air-Conditioned Places
If in the summer you decide to do some sightseeing in a town or city, you should locate some climate-controlled spots to recharge your energy when the heat makes it difficult to continue exploring. A nice cold beer, a chilled soda, or an iced coffee in an air-conditioned bar will refresh you.
Be Flexible with Changes in Plans
We are used to cancelling plans if it rains. Due to the rising temperatures in recent years, we will have to get used to cancelling plans because of extreme heat, from guided tours in cities to activities in nature.
Wear a Cap, You Can Wet It
We know that a cap doesn't look great with outfits for photo ops, but fainting looks even worse. A simple way to cool down your body is to wet a cap in a water source and put it on. Will you get wet? Yes. But... how refreshing will you feel?
